Artist like Stack Bundles (R.I.P.) who gave the world the “Rockstar” lifestyle. They brought to the light Max B aka The Silver Surfer, who in-turn made rapping with a melodic twist popular & made words like “Wave”, “Wavy”, “Oww” popular amongst the hip-hop community. They’re why rappers like Lil’ Wayne became fashion icons, which in-turn spawned this whole wave of “fashionistas”. Juelz had the signature bandana (mostly red) & Jim Jones brought the concept of slimming down your clothes to the mainstream America. He made it cool to be different & to be extremely confident in yourself. Killa was single handily responsible for everyone rocking pink (purple as well). I go back to a specific time, date, place. Every time I play a song whether it be Cam’ron (Killa), Jim Jones (Capo), Juelz Santana, Hell Rell, 40 Cal, J.R.

Their music is literally a nostalgic walk for me. I just wanted to talk about Dipset & bring attention to some of the worlds biggest influencers & innovators in music/ rap/ hip-hop history. making an apology solely to win people back onto your and you cannot win over people with an apology regardless. a disaster demands proper examination if you choose to address it. With all of this established, here's a question: if you made an album made solely to shut up your detractors in the most flashy fashion imaginable and had it win the culture war for a moment with every single critic bowing to you, wouldn't that get to your head and incredibly quick? considering such an album would be dishonest and would ultimately just be an imposing monolith that shows how big your dick is and how successful you are, the existence of the 'SUCK MY DICK LOL I'M BACK' album getting everyone to once again talk about you as if you just invented all of music would overshadow your own grasp on the circumstances that made such an album exist in the first place. * this is what MBDTF would sound like if MBDTF wasn't him playing up every single trope of a 'perfect kanye west album' imaginable. * send it up is actually necessary considering "RELIVING THE PAST? YOUR LOSS!" is the motto of this record. you ARE supposed to find ye's braggadacio unbearable. * yes, you ARE supposed to find shit like i'm in it absolutely fucking ridiculous. being a self-absorbed douchebag comes from the soul. * yes, you ARE supposed to laugh at all of the ridiculous shit he says on the album. I am of the belief that post-graduation kanye west is the ultimate litmus test for whether people pay attention to lyrics or not. maybe i'll do this for pablo and MBDTF soon (although pablo is my favorite ye album and writing about it will be difficult as shit if i want to get everything across). might get a bit too stream of consciousness-y with the length, but i've tried my best to keep it readable. obv, my take on it isn't the end-all but i've gone back and forth about the album multiple times in regards to specific song placements and specific elements of the songs enough to be confident in this.

Initially published this on rateyourmusic which is a site for fucking music nerds and thought you guys might get a kick out of it because i've always been passionate about breaking down ye's work, as unpredictable and inconsistent and wishy-washy as he is.
